Christiaan Kruger was born in South Africa, and lives in the tree filled University town of Potchefstroom, where has earned a diploma in animation, and completed courses in painting and graphic novel development. He works as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. Although trained in traditional art forms of sketching and painting, Christiaan has recently made the switch to digital art, because of the freedom it offers in terms of rapid creation.
He is inspired by nature, and the depiction of the human form in its great complexity and expression is the ultimate aim for him. He believes that all art should attempt to capture an aspect of the human experience.
Christiaan believes in strong and organic design, and starts many of his paintings with a rough, almost random compostion that captures both light and dark values and forms. From there he introduces colour, and develops the forms further, to craft a coherent image.
Some of his influences include Joe Madureira, Hieronymus Bosch, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Alice X. Zhang.
