Jevgenijs Maksimovs (Jev Maks) was born in Siberia in 1956. In 1983 he moved to Latvia while it still was part of the Soviet Union. He took a part in Latvian movement for freedom and independence and now considers Latvia as his country.
By education Jevgenijs is a professional seaman and since 1976 worked as ship’s Radio Officer and Captain’s Mate in merchant fleet. From May of 2015 he went ashore and works and lives in England, but keeps tight connection with Latvia.
Jevgenijs never studied arts. In the beginning of 2012 he started painting as a hobby. First it was children’s six-colours set of gouache paint and backside of the old navigation chart, then watercolours, acrylics and a little bit of oil. His favourite themes are landscape and (certainly) seascape, but he is trying other genres too.
